Changing Beliefs

Ken Wilber paraphrased it best when he said “Old paradigms die when believers in old paradigms die” (audio interview)

More accurately, “And Max Planck, surveying his own career in his Scientific Autobiography, sadly remarked that ‘a new scientific truth does not triumph by convincing its opponents and making them see the light, but rather because its opponents eventually die, and a new generation grows up that is familiar with it.’ (T.S. Kuhn, 1962)”

Sadly, this is often the case with other people – they don’t believe the obvious truth in front of them. But of course, not you and me, we don’t do that. We adopt new, more useful beliefs as soon as they arrive on our doorstep. Right? :)

This post inspired by Ken Wilber and John Mayer (Belief – from Continuum), thanks guys.
